Tesla Shares Rise Amid Cybertruck Lead’s Departure and Market Rebound
Tesla's stock climbed 4% Monday as tech markets rebounded, despite news that Siddhant Awasthi, the lead engineer behind the Cybertruck program, is leaving the company after eight years. Awasthi's departure follows a significant decline in Cybertruck registrations, which fell 63% year-over-year in Q3 to approximately 5,400 units in the U.S., with steeper drops overseas.
The exit adds to a broader wave of senior departures at Tesla, including longtime software VP David Lau and other key figures tied to battery and robotics programs. Leadership appears unsettled, even after last week's shareholder meeting. "This decision wasn’t easy, especially with so much exciting growth on the horizon," Awasthi wrote in a LinkedIn post, praising Tesla's complex vehicle systems and their impact.
